2009 Honda Ridgeline
The Honda Ridgeline, a midsize sport utility with a pickup bed, debuted for the 2006 model year. Unlike the other trucks in this segment, the Ridgeline utilizes a ladder frame/unibody hybrid chassis. This allows the Ridgeline to offer the strength of a traditional ladder frame, but the rigidity and utility of a unibody platform. Again differing from the competition, the Honda Ridgeline is only available with one engine and one driveline: a 3.5-liter V-6 mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission and an automatic all-wheel-drive system. This configuration has earned EPA fuel economy estimates of 15 mpg city and 20 mpg highway. In our 2008 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study, designed to measure consumer delight with the design, content, layout and performance of their new vehicles, the Honda Ridgeline ranked highest in its segment. In addition, it received “5-star” crash test scores from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) during testing. For 2009, the Honda Ridgeline receives updated styling for both the exterior and interior, a slight bump in horsepower for the V-6 engine, revised transmission ratios, and new electronic features including Bluetooth phone connectivity.
