2009 Ford Ranger
Launched more than 25 years ago, the Ford Ranger pickup is now in its fourth generation (last redesigned for 1998, but most recently facelifted in 2006). Available in Regular Cab and SuperCab configurations, the Ranger will seat up to 5 when configured properly. There are two pickup bed choices, and two driveline options (2WD and 4WD). Ford offers three different engines in the Ranger. The standard engine is a 2.3-liter 4-cylinder with a 5-speed manual transmission (with the optional 5-speed automatic transmission, the Ranger earns EPA fuel economy ratings of 19 mpg city and 24 mpg highway). The optional powerplants include a 3.0-liter V-6, and a 4.0-liter V-6. Both are available with a 5-speed automatic transmission. The Ford Ranger ranked highest in its segment in our 2008 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS), which measures problems experienced by original owners of 3-year-old vehicles. It also ranked among the top three models in its segment in our 2008 Initial Quality Study (IQS), the industry benchmark for new-vehicle quality measured at 90 days of ownership. There are no changes to the Ford Ranger for 2009.
