2009 Volkswagen Passat
The largest sedan in the Volkswagen lineup, the Passat has been in production since 1973 but didn’t arrive in the U.S. until 1990. The current model was introduced for the 2006 model year and it seats 5 occupants. The standard driveline is front-wheel drive with Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel drive standard on the top-of-the-line model. Two different engines, a turbocharged 4-cylinder and a 6-cylinder, are offered. While the entry-level model is nicely equipped, the range-topping VR6 4Motion model is luxurious with its standard leather sport seats and brushed aluminum interior trim. In EPA fuel economy testing, the standard front-wheel-drive 4-cylinder Passat returned mileage estimates of 19 mpg city, and 29 mpg highway. Passat owners have expressed their delight with the design, content, layout and performance of their new vehicle, as the German sedan model ranked highest in its segment in our 2008 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study. Volkswagen is introducing a new Passat 4-door coupé model called the Passat CC in 2009. The standard sedan will remain unchanged.
