2009 Toyota Camry
When launched in 1983, the Toyota Camry was a compact economy sedan. Following the trend of its competitors, the car grew in size and power as each subsequent model was introduced. Now in its seventh generation (introduced for the 2007 model year), the Toyota Camry sedan is one of the most popular midsize sedans in the United States. The Camry sedan is offered with a choice of 4- or 6-cylinder engines, and four transmissions (5- and 6-speed manual, 5- and 6-speed automatic). A hybrid gasoline-electric model is also available. The standard Camry earned EPA fuel economy estimates of 21 mpg city and 31 mpg highway (2.4-liter engine with automatic transmission). The Camry Hybrid model earned 33 mpg city and 34 mpg highway. In our 2008 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS), measuring problems experienced by original owners during the third year of ownership, the Toyota Camry sedan ranked among the top three models in its segment. In addition, the Camry sedan scored 5-star ratings in frontal impact testing by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). With the exception of new optional wheels for the LE models, the sedan is a carryover for 2009.
