2009 Mitsubishi Galant
In production in Japan since the late 1960s (a version was sold in the U.S. as the Dodge Colt in the early 1970s), the Galant first arrived in the U.S. for 1989 and is, today, one of the larger “midsize” sedans on the market. The current model was first introduced for the 2004 model year. Mitsubishi provides buyers with a long list of features including available touch-screen navigation, Sirius satellite radio, and a 360-watt Rockford audio system. Like others in this segment, Mitsubishi offers 4- and 6-cylinder powerplants coupled to an automatic transmission driving the front wheels. The 5-passenger Galant earned EPA fuel economy estimates of 20 mpg city, and 27 mpg highway (2.4-liter engine with automatic transmission). The Mitsubishi Galant ranked among the top three models in its segment in the 2008 Initial Quality Study (IQS), which measures new-vehicle quality during the first 90 days of ownership. The Galant receives a facelift for 2009. The model lineup also includes sport models for both engine choices, and the top-of-the-line Galant Ralliart features a 258-hp V-6 engine and sport-tuned suspension.
