2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse
This sporty 2-door coupe first arrived in showrooms in the late 1980s. Now, in its fourth generation (introduced in 2006), the Mitsubishi Eclipse coupe is available in four different trim levels: GS, SE, GT and SE V6. The 2-door Eclipse is offered with a choice between 4- and 6-cylinder power, and four different transmissions (5- and 6-speed manual, and 4- and 5-speed automatic). With an automatic transmission, the standard 4-cylinder engine is EPA fuel economy rated at 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. Unlike the first-generation Eclipse with its available performance-oriented all-wheel-drive system, the current model is front-wheel drive only. Demonstrating a low number of problems reported by original owners during the third year of ownership, the Mitsubishi Eclipse ranked among the top three models in its segment in our 2008 Vehicle Dependability Study. For 2009, the 4-seat Mitsubishi Eclipse receives several minor cosmetic updates to help differentiate the 4-cylinder GS model from the V-6 GT model. In addition, the GT models add active stability control, optional high-intensity-discharge headlamps and a new rear spoiler.
