2009 Honda Accord
Originally launched in 1976, the Honda Accord has grown significantly in size, power and amenities over its 33 years on the market. The current model, with standard traction control, vehicle stability assist, and active front head restraints, was all-new for 2008. It offers a choice of 4- or 6-cylinder power with a choice of 5-speed transmissions (manual or automatic) for its front-wheel-drive platform. The standard model earned EPA fuel economy ratings of 22 mpg city and 30 mpg highway (2.4-liter engine with an automatic transmission). In our 2008 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study, measuring owner delight with the performance and design of their new vehicles, the Honda Accord ranked among the top three models in its segment. The Accord has proved its occupant safety in a crash with 5-star crash test ratings by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and a “Top Safety Pick” designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Honda increased the power rating for the V-6 models slightly for the 2009 model year.
