2009 Lincoln Navigator
First introduced in 1998, the luxurious Lincoln Navigator combines the truck-like utility of a traditional 7-passenger SUV with the comfort and conveniences of a large luxury sedan. Now in its third generation, the Navigator features independent suspension for a smoother ride, a choice of 2- or 4-wheel drive, and a powerful 8-cylinder powerplant (EPA fuel economy estimates of 12 mpg city and 18 mpg highway in 2WD trim). Its direct domestic competition is the Cadillac Escalade. In the 2008 J.D. Power and Associates Initial Quality Study (IQS), the industry benchmark for new-vehicle quality measured at 90 days, the Navigator ranked highest in its segment. In the 2008 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study, measuring owner satisfaction with performance and design attributes during the first 90 days, the Navigator also ranked among the top three models in its segment. With an eye towards safety, and an accolade to prove it, the Lincoln Navigator earned 5-star crash test ratings by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Lincoln has added a new monochromatic appearance package to the Navigator for the new model year.
