2009 Mercedes-Benz S-Class
The flagship S-Class was all-new for 2007. Larger than its predecessor, it had newly developed engines for more efficiency and power. The 2009 S-Class is available in rear- and all-wheel-drive versions with a choice of 8- or 12-cylinder power—two different AMG models offer enthusiasts very sporty versions of this large luxury sedan. The standard model, the S550, earned EPA fuel economy ratings of 14 mpg city and 22 mpg highway (all S-Class models have a standard automatic transmission). Owners have reported a very low number of problems with their Mercedes-Benz S-Class models. As a result, in our 2008 Initial Quality Study (IQS), the S-Class ranked among the top three models in its segment. Owners also expressed delight with the design, content, layout and performance of their new S-Class, pushing it to the top of its segment in our 2008 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study. The 2009 S-Class remains mostly unchanged for the new model year.
