2009 Toyota Tundra
The Toyota Tundra is a full-size pickup truck that was first sold in 2000. Now in its second generation (last redesigned for 2007), the Tundra offers a choice between regular, Double Cab, or CrewMax cabs. It also offers three engine choices, and rear- or 4-wheel driveline configurations (2WD or 4WD). The standard engine is a 4.0-liter V-6 with a 5-speed automatic transmission (EPA fuel economy rated at 15 mpg city and 19 mpg highway). Optional engines are a 4.7-liter V-8, and a 5.7-liter V-8. The range-topping engine receives a 6-speed automatic transmission. In our 2008 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS), designed to measure problems experienced by original owners of 3-year-old vehicles, the previous-generation Toyota Tundra ranked highest in its segment. It also ranked among the top three models in its segment in both our 2008 Initial Quality Study (IQS), the industry benchmark for new-vehicle quality measured at 90 days of ownership, and the 2008 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study. The APEAL study measures consumer delight with the design, content, layout and performance of their new vehicles. In crash testing, the Toyota Tundra earned a “Top Safety Pick” designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Toyota has made several changes to the Tundra for 2009. All Double Cab and CrewMax models receive chrome bumpers, and SR5 buyers may choose between bench and bucket seats. The 5.7-liter V-8 engine becomes E85 (ethanol) FlexFuel-compatible, and two new option packages are available: TRD Sport and TRD Rock Warrior.
