2009 GMC Sierra 1500
The GMC Sierra pickup is nearly identical to the Chevrolet Silverado pickup. Like its sibling, the Sierra is highly configurable with available regular, extended and crew cabs each with a choice of bed length. The cabs range from 2 to 4 doors to accommodate up to 6 passengers. There are multiple engine choices with 6- or 8-cylinders, and a choice of 2- or 4-wheel drive. The base engine is a 4.3-liter V-6 mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission (the EPA fuel economy ratings are 15 mpg city and 20 mpg highway). The GMC Sierra 2-Mode Hybrid uses a 6.0-liter V-8 engine and a powerful electric motor with a 300-volt electrical system to achieve 21 mpg city and 22 mpg highway—a 40-percent improvement in the city over the gasoline engine. In our 2008 Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study, designed to measure consumer delight with the design, content, layout and performance of their new vehicles, the GMC Sierra ranked among the top three models in its segment. In addition, the Sierra pickup earned “5-star” crash test scores from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The GMC Sierra receives a new 6-speed automatic transmission for 2009. In addition, a 6.2-liter V-8 engine is now available on SLT Crew Cab models. Other changes include 18- and 20-inch optional chrome-clad wheels, updated OnStar, Bluetooth phone connectivity, and XM satellite radio with NavTraffic. The SLE2 trim level is dropped (the options are contained in the SLE package now). Several new colors have also been added.
