2009 Ford F-150
All-new for 2009, the full-size Ford F-150 pickup arrives with improvements in nearly every area. New lightweight high-strength steel adds crash protection while helping to improve fuel economy. In addition, the new F-150 features Ford’s Safety Canopy System with head protection for the first and second rows. There are three cab configurations (regular, extended and crew), and three bed styles (short, long and extended). Ford has dropped the standard V-6 engine in favor of three gasoline V-8 powerplants. The standard engine is a 2-valve 4.6-liter mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission (EPA fuel economy ratings are 15 mpg city and 20 mpg highway). The optional 3-valve 4.6-liter and 5.4-liter V-8 engines are mated to 6-speed automatic transmissions (Ford has dropped all manual transmissions on the F-150 model line). In our 2008 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS), measuring problems experienced by original owners of 3-year-old vehicles, the Ford F-150 ranked among the top three models in its segment.
