2009 Dodge Ram 1500
All-new for 2009, the Dodge Ram is a full-size pickup available with three cab configurations, three bed styles, and a choice of 2- or 4-wheel drive (2WD or 4WD). The new Ram features a multi-link coil-spring rear suspension for the first time (replacing leaf springs), and seating for up to 6 passengers. The standard engine is a 3.7-liter V-6 and is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission (with the optional 4-speed automatic transmission, the EPA fuel economy ratings are 14 mpg city and 20 mpg highway). The more powerful engines include a 4.7-liter V-8 coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission (a 5-speed automatic transmission is optional), and a 5.7-liter V-8 attached to a 5-speed automatic. There are five trim levels on the 2009 Dodge Ram: ST, SLT, TRX, Sport and Laramie. Options include satellite radio, a multimedia infotainment system, and navigation. For utility, the Ram offers the RamBox storage system with a bed extender and cargo rail system. In our 2008 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS), measuring problems experienced by original owners of 3-year-old vehicles, the previous-generation Dodge Ram proved its durability, as it ranked among the top three models in its segment.
