2009 Mercury Grand Marquis
The Mercury Grand Marquis is a throwback to traditional full-size automobiles with body-on-frame platforms and rear-wheel drive. The Grand Marquis shares its chassis with the discontinued Ford Crown Victoria (Ford’s Crown Victoria model is currently only sold through fleet sales). It is popular with law enforcement and limousine companies who modify and configure the models to their needs. The 6-passenger Grand Marquis is equipped with a standard 4.6-liter 8-cylinder engine and a 4-speed automatic transmission with flex-fuel (FFV) capabilities earning it EPA fuel economy estimates of 16 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. In our 2008 Initial Quality Study (IQS), the industry benchmark for new-vehicle quality measured at 90 days of ownership, the Grand Marquis ranked among the top three models in its segment. It also ranked among the top three models in its segment in our 2008 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS), which measures problems experienced by original owners during the third year of ownership. In crash testing, the Mercury Grand Marquis was rated with “5-star” crash test scores from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in frontal crash testing. The Grand Marquis is unchanged for 2009.
