2008 Volkswagen GTI
After the Beetle, the Volkswagen GTI may be one of the most recognized models in the Volkswagen lineup. Following its introduction in 1983, many enthusiasts consider the Volkswagen GTI the original “hot hatch” compact car, offering the ideal combination of utility, efficiency, and fun-to-drive in one package. Consumers have recognized these qualities in the 2007 APEAL study, resulting in the Volkswagen GTI ranking highest among compact sporty cars. The GTI is also reasonably frugal at the pump. According to EPA estimates, the GTI with automatic transmission is rated at 22 mpg city/29 mpg highway. A 4-door GTI model joined the lineup in 2007. In 2008, Volkswagen lowered the ride height slightly, for better handling, added Sirius satellite radio as a standard feature, and removed the automatic climate control.
