What's New

For 2006, the Volvo XC70 gets a new all-wheel-drive system with Volvo’s Instant Traction technology, a system that can deliver up to 50 percent more torque to the rear wheels when required for added performance. Other news includes paint changes from Ash Gold to new Lunar Gold and from Crystal Green to new Willow Green. A wood-trimmed steering wheel, rear park assist, and 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats are available as part of an option package and not as stand-alone options.

Reviews

The V70 is Volvo’s basic wagon, with the XC70 offering enhanced off-road capabilities. The XC70 features beefy bumpers, a Stone Gray or Brown overfender, and lower cladding to give it a more SUV-like appearance. Although the rugged exterior design is appealing, the capability and safety features are really what buyers have come to expect. For those who want originality, opt for the Ocean Race edition, which features unique upholstery and the exclusive Ocean Race Blue metallic exterior paint.

Before the introduction of the XC90, Volvo's only offering for the SUV-hungry public was the XC70. First launched as the Cross Country, the model employed the body of the V70 wagon with an upgraded suspension that allowed it to venture off road. The XC70 formula actually worked well, leading Audi to introduce its own competitive version of the concept, the Allroad. Though it lacks the interior room most SUV buyers seek, the XC70 is extremely capable in deep snow and mud and makes a surprisingly comfortable everyday driver.
