Volvo’s small premium crossover vehicle, the XC60, is a new introduction for 2010. It emphasizes luxury, includes a comprehensive menu of standard and optional safety features, and offers a choice of inline 6-cylinder engines and front- or all-wheel drive (AWD).

The base-level Volvo XC60, the 3.2 trim, features 17-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, power accessories (including a power driver’s seat), Bluetooth connectivity, and an 8-speaker sound system. The XC60 T6 model features 18-inch wheels, leather upholstery, power passenger seat, and upgraded mirrors and windows. The XC60 R-Design steps up to 20-inch wheels, and adds a panoramic sunroof, sport suspension, sport seats, adaptive Xenon headlights, and various cosmetic upgrades. The Climate option package addresses cold-weather issues; the Convenience package adds a power liftgate and front and rear park assist; the Technology package includes adaptive cruise control and extra safety features. A Multimedia package includes a navigation system, upgraded sound system, and rearview camera. Many options are available as stand-alones. Maximum cargo space is 67.4 cubic feet, according to the manufacturer.

The 2010 Volvo XC60 3.2’s power plant is a 235-horsepower, 3.2-liter, inline 6-cylinder engine that delivers 18 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA. The XC60 T6 and R-Design trims feature a turbocharged, 281-horsepower, 3.0-liter, inline 6-cylinder engine that delivers 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. A 6-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control is standard on all 2010 Volvo XC60s.

Standard safety features on the 2010 Volvo XC60 include anti-lock disc brakes with brake assist, stability control, traction control, trailer stability assist, front side air bags, side curtain air bags, and the City Safety braking system. Hill-descent control is standard on AWD models. Optional equipment includes lane-departure warning, impact warning, and intruder detection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the XC60 the highest-possible “Good” ratings across the board on all impact tests.

Starting MSRPs for the 2010 Volvo XC60 ranged from $32,395 to $41,550.
