What's New

After receiving a major freshening for 2005, the Volvo V70 sees minor changes for 2006. The T5 model is deleted, with the V70 2.4 taking its place as the base model. The 2.4 receives 16-inch wheels as standard, while the 2.5T gets a new wheel design. The Convenience Package adds power child locks, a sunglasses holder, and park assist, and 17-inch wheels are now available as an option. Finally, Lunar Gold replaces Ash Gold and Willow Green replaces Platinum Green in the exterior color department.

Reviews

Volvo’s premium V70 wagon comes in two flavors for 2006: the 2.4 and 2.5T. Under the hood of the V70 2.4 is a normally aspirated, inline-five-cylinder engine that puts out 168 hp (165 hp in states with California emissions) and comes coupled to the standard 5-speed manual transmission or available 5-speed, electronically controlled automatic. Selecting the V70 2.5T nets the turbocharged and intercooled I-5 that spins out 208 hp and 236 lb.-ft. of torque. This powerplant is mated to a standard 5-speed Geartronic automatic transmission, which enables the driver to shift manually when desired via the Auto-Stick function.
Volvo has a long and enviable reputation for building bullet-proof station wagons families have come to trust with their lives. The V70 not only offers all the safety measures Volvo customers have come to expect, it also features a heavy dose of handsome styling, impressive performance and useful versatility.
