Volkswagen's New Beetle's continuing popularity has proven its unique, retro shape to be more than just a passing fad. It may not arrive with the same sort of bargain-basement price that made the original Beetle such a world-wide favorite, but it is still easily attainable for even modest budgets and, as did the original, offers a good value for the money. Based on the VW Golf platform, it has a front engine and front-wheel drive, unlike the rear-engine, rear-drive original. Since the New Beetle's introduction a few years ago, VW has added a popular convertible model to round out the line and keep sales moving, and the New Beetle remains as one of the most easily recognizable cars on the road today.
