Well known for installing all-wheel drive on every model, Subaru has an enviable reputation as a maker of practical small cars. For 2006, the Japanese automaker has moved up the size spectrum, introducing a midsize flagship Sport Utility Vehicle with seven-passenger seating. All other Subarus, including the "crossover" Forester wagon, carry no more than five occupants. Subaru's incentive for developing the curiously-named B9 Tribeca is obvious. Customers "tend to leave the brand when they need more space," said spokesperson Dominick Infante. Manufactured in Indiana, the B9 Tribeca has Subaru's most advanced all-wheel-drive system, incorporating Vehicle Dynamics Control.
