What’s New?
The second-generation Xterra made its debut only two years ago, in 2005, so changes are few for the 2007 model. Small changes include the addition of standard mudguards on 4x4 models, a standard leather-wrapped steering wheel and a sunglasses holder on the Off-Road model, standard body-side moldings on SE models, and the addition of MP3 playback on the Rockford Fosgate Audio Package on SE models. One new exterior color—Desert Stone—rounds out the changes for 2007.
Overview
The Nissan Xterra remains the real workhorse in the Nissan SUV lineup. It’s the one owners aren’t afraid to scratch or get dirty—those things merely being visual reminders of fun times. Everything about the Xterra is designed to make it practical for those active sorts who are doing and going every weekend. It uses the F-Alpha platform that’s shared with many other Nissan products. Design-wise, the Xterra falls into the Nissan brand identity game plan with the same angled strut design as on all the other Nissan SUVs and trucks. The only concern might be the cut-out of the second row of doors that compensates for the wheelwell, which means getting in and out of the vehicle takes a bit of contorting. The cargo holder on the roof is a good place to store wet clothes and shoes, rather than inside the vehicle.
All Xterras come equipped with a 4.0-liter V-6 engine that makes 261 hp and an impressive 281 lb.-ft. of torque. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual or a 5-speed automatic. Unlike some other models in its segment, the Xterra features a solid rear axle for more serious off-road action.
Four trim levels are offered on the Xterra: X, S, Off-Road, and SE. Inside, the Xterra can be equipped with almost nothing, or with a lot. If you just want the basics, opt for the X version. If you want to equip your vehicle well, choose the SE, which gets you standard items like cruise control, power windows, remote keyless entry, and other options that will cost you extra if you opt for the X trim level.

Power and Associates Sales Report,SM were the Jeep Libery (133,557 units sold), Jeep Wrangler (80,271), and Nissan Xterra (62,325).
