The Nissan Altima, a family-oriented midsize car, appeals to a broad customer base; It is available as a sedan or a coupé, with gasoline or hybrid power, stripped or fully featured. For 2010, the grille, hood, and front bumper have been restyled, and several of its optional features have been upgraded.

The base model of the 2010 Nissan Altima is the 2.5 sedan, which features 16-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, cruise control, keyless entry, and a trip computer, but no sound system. The 2.5 S is available as a sedan or coupé, and adds 17-inch alloy wheels (coupé only), keyless ignition, and 6-speaker sound system. The 3.5 SR trim features a V-6 engine, 17-inch alloy wheels on the sedan and 18-inch wheels on the coupé, and sport suspension. Option packages for both the 2.5 S and the 3.5 SR can include a sunroof (sedan only), power driver’s seat, leather upholstery, heated front seats, automatic headlights, dual-zone automatic climate control, 9-speaker Bose sound system, and a rearview camera. The Altima Hybrid offers similar standard equipment and option packages, in addition to its hybrid powertrain.

The 2010 Nissan Altima 2.5 and 2.5 S trims feature a 175-horsepower, 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. It works with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) on the sedan, and either the CVT or a 6-speed manual transmission on the coupé. According to the EPA, it delivers 23 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway with the CVT. The 3.5 SR employs a 270-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine, with the same transmissions. It delivers 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway with the CVT. The Altima Hybrid, available in the nine states that have adopted California’s emission standards, features a modified version of the 2.5-liter engine, combined with an electric motor. Together, they deliver 198 horsepower, 35 mpg in the city, and 33 mpg on the highway.

Safety features on the 2010 Nissan Altima include anti-lock brakes, stability control, active front head restraints, front- and side-impact air bags, and side curtain air bags.
