The Outlander is Mitsubishi’s compact crossover SUV, available with front- or all-wheel drive. The Outlander underwent an extensive redesign for 2010, which includes cosmetic changes to the interior and exterior, the addition of a new premium trim level, and more powerful engines.
The 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander comes in four trim levels: ES, SE, XLS, and GT. The ES features 16-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, cruise control, and a 6-speaker sound system. The SE model features 18-inch wheels, fabric sport seats, keyless entry and ignition, and other trim enhancements. The XLS steps up to a V-6 engine and adds automatic climate control, a third-row seat, and Bluetooth connectivity. The GT trim adds Xenon headlights, upgraded trim and pedals, and a Rockford Fosgate sound system. Various option packages are available at different trim levels, and can include a sunroof, hard-drive-based navigation system, leather upholstery, power driver’s seat, and a rear-seat entertainment system.
The 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander ES and SE trims feature a 168-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine, coupled with a continuously variable transmission that delivers 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway with front-wheel drive, according to the EPA. Outlander XLS and GT models feature a 230-horsepower, 3.0-liter V-6 engine that employs a 6-speed automatic transmission and delivers 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway with front-wheel drive. All the Outlander’s transmissions feature manual shifters. The all-wheel-drive system offers three driving modes.
Standard safety features on the 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander include anti-lock brakes, stability control, active front head restraints, front- and side-impact air bags, side curtain air bags, seat belt pre-tensioners, an ignition disabling device, and an intrusion detection system. In government crash tests, the NHTSA gave the Lancer 5 out of 5 stars for driver and front-passenger protection in front impacts. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded its highest-possible “Good” ratings in frontal-offset and side-impact tests, and “Acceptable” for rear-impact protection.
MSRPs for the 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander ranged from $20,840 to $29,250.
