The Mazda CX-9 is the automaker’s full-size crossover SUV, a 7-passenger model now in its fourth year of production. It shares an engine (and platform) with the Ford Edge. The Mazda CX-9 has been described as a minivan with the look of a modern station wagon. The 2010 model features design changes to both interior and exterior, and is available with front- or all-wheel drive.

The base level Mazda CX-9 Sport features 18-inch alloy wheels, trip computer, Bluetooth connectivity, 3-zone automatic climate control, and steering-wheel-mounted controls for the 6-speaker sound system and the cruise control. The Touring trim includes leather upholstery with heated front seats, as well as heated mirrors. The Grand Touring trim has 20-inch wheels, keyless ignition, keyless entry, many interior upgrades, Xenon headlights, and fog lights. Sliding second-row seats and fold-down third-row seats are standard on all CX-9 trims for 2010. Both the second- and third-row seats can fold flat, resulting in a maximum of 101 cubic feet of cargo space, according to Mazda. Maximum towing capacity for the CX-9 is 3500 pounds.

The standard power plant in the 2010 Mazda CX-9 is a 273-horsepower, 3.7-liter V-6 engine, coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control. According to the EPA, the 2010 Mazda CX-9 delivers 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway with front-wheel drive; 15/21 with all-wheel drive.

Standard safety features on the 2010 Mazda CX-9 include anti-lock disc brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, stability control with rollover sensor, traction control, rearview camera, front side air bags, and side curtain air bags. Active head restraints are newly standard. A rearview camera is optional on the Touring and Grand Touring trims, and the Grand Touring trim features a blind-spot warning system. In government crash tests, the NHTSA gave the 2010 Mazda CX-9 five stars (out of five) in its front-impact crash tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the CX-9 “Good” ratings in its frontal-offset, side-impact, and rear–impact crash tests.

Starting MSRP for the 2010 Mazda CX-9 was $28,805.
