Mazda’s midsize crossover SUV, the 5-seat CX-7, has received a styling refresh for 2010, inside and out. Highlights include a new turbocharged engine and a more prominent grille. The Mazda CX-7 competes with SUVs such as the Chevrolet Equinox, Mistubishi Outlander, and the Volkswagen Tiguan.

The CX-7’s base trim level, i SV, features 17-inch wheels, power windows and locks, cruise control, air conditioning, and a 4-speaker sound system. The CX-7 i Sport trim adds Bluetooth connectivity and some cosmetic upgrades. The CX-7 s Touring trim features 18-inch alloy wheels, new turbocharged engine with dual exhaust outlets, leather upholstery, upgraded front seats, and a rear cargo cover. The CX-7 s Grand Touring trim features 19-inch alloy wheels, sunroof, automatic Xenon headlights, automatic climate control, keyless ignition, keyless entry, upgraded leather upholstery, upgraded Bose sound system, and other enhancements. The CX-7 i SV and CX-7 i Sport are available in front-wheel drive; the Touring and Grand Touring models offer optional all-wheel drive. All 2010 Mazda CX-7s provide 30 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, and 59 cubic feet with those seats folded down, Mazda says.

The two lower trim levels of the 2010 Mazda CX-7 feature a 161-horsepower, 2.5-liter, inline 4-cylinder engine coupled with a 5-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control. That engine delivers 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway with front-wheel drive, according to the EPA. The Touring and Grand Touring trims employ a turbocharged, 244-horsepower, 2.3-liter 4-cylinder engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control. It delivers 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway with all-wheel drive.

Standard safety features on the 2010 Mazda CX-7 include anti-lock disc brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, stability control, traction control, rearview camera, front side air bags, and side curtain air bags. In government crash tests, the NHTSA gave the 2010 Mazda CX-7 five stars (out of five) in both front- and side-impact tests for both driver and passengers. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded “Good” ratings to the CX-7 in its frontal-offset and side-impact crash tests, and an “Acceptable” rating for rear–impact protection.

Starting MSRP for the 2010 Mazda CX-7 was $21,700.
