Now in its fourth year of production, the Lincoln MKX is a midsize 5-seat luxury crossover SUV, a more upscale cousin to the Ford Edge. It employs a car-based platform, with unibody construction and front- or all-wheel drive. Its main competitors include the Lexus RX 350, Acura MDX, Audi Q5, and the BMW X3.
The 2010 Lincoln MKX is available in one trim level that offers a large complement of standard features and several option packages. Standard on the MKX are 18-inch wheels, power liftgate, leather upholstery, heated and cooled front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, 6-speaker sound system, and Sync electronics, which includes Bluetooth capability and an iPod interface.
Several option packages are offered, each one building on the last. The Ultimate package upgrades the seats and wheels, and adds adaptive headlights and interior mood lighting. The Elite package includes a panoramic sunroof, hard-drive-based navigation system with SiriusXM Travel Link, and an upgraded sound system. The Limited Edition and the Monochrome package add 20-inch wheels and stylish colors and trim features, while the Midnight Limited Edition boasts 22-inch wheels and a sport-tuned suspension. With the rear seats down, cargo space totals 69 cubic feet. Properly equipped, the 2010 Lincoln MKX can tow 3500 pounds, Lincoln says.
A 265-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine is standard on the 2010 Lincoln MKX, with a 6-speed automatic transmission. With front-wheel drive, the MKX delivers 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.
Standard safety features on the 2010 Lincoln MKX include anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control, rear parking sensors, front side air bags, and side curtain air bags. The 2010 Lincoln MKX received “Good” ratings in front-, side-, and rear-impact tests from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and five stars (out of five) for driver and front passenger frontal-impact protection from the NHTSA.
