The RX 350 is Lexus’ entry-level crossover SUV. Its third generation, completely redesigned, made its US début for the 2010 model year. The RX seats five, and features a new transmission, bigger brakes, a new double-wishbone rear suspension, and other technological upgrades in the cabin. For 2010, it’s available in front- or all-wheel drive, as well as in a hybrid version—the RX 450h.
The 2010 Lexus RX 350 and the RX 450h both feature 18-inch wheels, power accessories (including 10-way-adjustable front seats), dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless ignition, and keyless entry. Various option packages are available. Fully loaded, both models include 19-inch wheels, sport-tuned suspension, heated and ventilated front seats, bi-Xenon adaptive headlights, hard-drive-based navigation system, premium Mark Levinson sound system, and many other features. With the rear seats folded down, total cargo space is 80 cubic feet, Lexus says.
The 2010 Lexus RX 350’s standard powertrain consists of a 275-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6 engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission with sequential shift. It delivers 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway with front-wheel drive, according to the EPA. The RX 450h’s standard power plant consists of a 3.5-liter V-6 gasoline engine and two electric motor/generators; the all-wheel-drive model adds a third motor to power the rear wheels. The engine and motors work with a multi-mode continuously variable transmission with sequential shift. The RX 450h delivers 28 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway with front-wheel drive, according to the EPA.
Standard safety features on the 2010 Lexus RX include anti-lock brakes with brake assist, stability control, traction control, front and rear side air bags, side curtain air bags, and dual front knee air bags. The Lexus RX 350 and 450h received “Good” ratings in front-, side-, and rear-impact tests from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and five stars (out of five) for driver and passenger front-impact protection from the NHTSA.
Starting MSRPs for the 2010 Lexus RX 350 and the RX 450h were $37,625 and $42,685, respectively.
