The Lexus IS is an entry-level luxury car, available as a sedan or a cabriolet, with a choice of three engines. The Lexus IS 250 and 250C feature a 2.5-liter V-6 engine; the Lexus IS 350 and 350C have a 3.5-liter V-6 engine. The performance version of the IS, the IS F, might be called an “executive muscle car,” and it boasts a 5.0-liter V-8 engine.

Standard equipment, and options, vary slightly among trim levels. The standard model features 17-inch wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless ignition and entry, sunroof, power accessories including a power-adjustable front seat, Bluetooth, Safety Connect, and a 13-speaker sound system with satellite radio and auxiliary jacks. Various option packages are available. A navigation system is optional, and may include a 14-speaker Mark Levinson surround sound system.

For 2010, a limited-slip differential has been added to the IS F’s standard equipment list, and the sound system has been upgraded. The IS F features 19-inch wheels with performance tires, Brembo brakes, sunroof, power accessories including 10-way leather-clad power sport seats, keyless entry and ignition, Bluetooth connectivity, and a 13-speaker sound system with satellite radio.

Depending on the engine, the various 2010 Lexus IS models deliver between 16 and 21 mpg in the city, and 23 to 29 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA.

Standard safety features on the 2010 Lexus IS include anti-lock disc brakes, traction and stability control, Safety Connect telematics, front side air bags, and side curtain air bags. With the optional adaptive cruise control comes a Pre-Collision System that braces both the vehicle and the passengers if impact is inevitable, Lexus says. In government crash tests, the NHTSA gave the 2010 Lexus IS four stars (out of five) for driver and passenger frontal-impact protection and for rear side-impact protection, and five stars for front-row side-impact protection. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the IS 250 “Good” ratings for frontal-offset and side-impact protection, and an “Acceptable” rating for rear-impact protection.

Starting MSRPs for the 2010 Lexus IS ranged from $32,145 for the IS 250 to $58,460 for the IS F.
