The Kia Sedona is a 7-passenger minivan, first introduced in the late 1990s and known in some markets outside the United States as the Kia Carnival. Kia launched the second generation of the Sedona for the 2006 model year, introducing a slightly larger, sharper-handling vehicle than the original, according to the automaker. The 2010 Sedona is a front-wheel-drive vehicle, available in a short-wheelbase (SWB) or long-wheelbase (LWB) configuration. The LWB features a 119-inch wheelbase; the SWB measures 114 inches.
The SWB Sedona is available in three trims: base, LX and EX. The LWB is offered only in the LX and EX trims. The base model features 16-inch steel wheels, air conditioning, cruise control, sound system with satellite radio and USB/auxiliary jack, keyless entry, power accessories, second-row captain’s chairs, and a fold-down table between the two front seats. The LX adds ultrasonic rear parking assist as standard equipment, and offers dual-power sliding side doors and a rearview camera as options. The EX trim adds those features as standard equipment, along with 17-inch alloy wheels, fog lights, upgraded front seats, and other enhancements.
A Luxury option package is available on the Sedona EX, and includes leather seats (heated in front), tri-zone automatic climate controls, a sunroof, and more. With the Luxury package, a navigation system is optional. Both of the upper trims may add a DVD entertainment system and a 13-speaker Infinity surround-sound system.
The 2010 Kia Sedona features a 244-horsepower, 3.8-liter V-6 engine that produces 253 lb.-ft. of torque. Joined to a 5-speed automatic transmission, it delivers 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA.
In government crash tests, the NHTSA gave the 2010 Kia Sedona five stars (out of five) in both front- and side-impact tests. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the Sedona “Good” ratings in frontal-offset and side-impact tests.
