Introduced last year, the Veracruz is
Hyundai's first venture into the big CUV market, where it competes against models like the
Mazda CX-9,
Ford Edge,
Buick Enclave and
Honda Pilot. Based on a stretched version of the
Santa Fe, the 7-seat Veracruz features car-style unibody construction and a 4-wheel independent suspension. The Veracruz isn't just about size: Hyundai is pitching it as a luxury model, with premium features such as extra sound deadening and "semi-active" electronic engine mounts designed to keep the cabin quiet and vibration-free. To bolster the Veracruz's luxury image, several features which were optional on last year's Limited model are now standard on the 2008 Veracruz Limited.
