The Tucson has been a feather in Hyundai's cap since its launch in 2005, receiving several awards, including ranking highest in the Compact Multi-Activity Vehicle segment in the
J.D. Power and Associates 2006 Initial Quality Study.SM Like many crossovers, the Tucson—which is mechanically similar to the
Kia Sportage—is constructed like a car with a transverse- (sideways) mounted engine (a 140-hp, 2.0-liter 4-cylinder for GLS models and a 173-hp, 2.7-liter V-6 for the SE and Limited) and a choice of front- or all-wheel drive (AWD). Four-cylinder Tucsons are available with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission, though AWD is only available with a manual transmission. All V-6-powered Tucsons get the 4-speed automatic.
