The Hyundai Azera was the automaker’s flagship model in the U.S. until the Genesis sedan arrived here in 2008. The Azera is a near-full-size economy car with a four-wheel independent suspension. For 2010, the Azera added several standard features to its higher-trim model.
The GLS is the Azera’s base trim. It has 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic air conditioning, remote keyless entry, full power accessories, heated side mirrors, wood grain interior accents, leather-wrapped steering wheel and gearshift knob, and a sound system that features six speakers, in-dash CD changer, satellite radio, and iPod/USB connection. A sunroof, leather upholstery, and heated front seats are optional. The Limited trim includes those options as standard equipment and adds various upgrades, including a wood-trimmed steering wheel and a premium Infinity sound system. An even more upscale Infinity audio system is optional, as is a navigation system.
All Azeras have a five-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, but the engine size and output varies according to trim level. The GLS has a 234-hp, 3.3-liter V6 engine that produces 226 lb.-ft. of torque and delivers 18 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. The Limited has a 263-hp, 3.8-liter V6 engine that makes 257 lb.-ft. of torque and delivers 17 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway.
Safety features include antilock disc brakes, traction control, stability control, front-seat side airbags, rear door side airbags, side curtain airbags, and active front head restraints. The NHTSA gave the 2010 Hyundai Azera five stars for side-impact tests, and four stars for front-impact. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the Azera a “Good” rating for frontal-offset tests and “Acceptable” for side impact.
