What’s New?
As a segue for Chevrolet’s all-new generation of restyled Silverado and Silverado HD pickups, the former style (dating back to 1999) has been dubbed the Classic line and will be offered concurrently with the all-new Silverado for 2007. There are no significant changes to the outgoing Heavy Duty Classic for 2007 other than recovery hooks are now being offered as standard equipment on all 1500HD, 2500HD, and 3500 models.
Overview
For 2007, Chevrolet’s Silverado HD (heavy duty) Classic line of fullsize pickup trucks maintains the style and features that helped make the Silverado a best seller in the large family of General Motors vehicles. The brawny HD Classic models are designed and built to handle more of a workload than the conventional Silverado Classic series. These pickups come in a dizzying variety of configurations that permit customers to tailor their purchasing decisions to their specific criteria. The Silverado HD Classic is categorized into three basic models: half-ton 1500HD, 3/4-ton 2500HD, and 1-ton 3500. Three trim levels (LT1, LT2, and LT3) are offered on the 1500HD, while the 2500HD and 3500 add two more (entry-level LS and work truck WT). All models are available in Regular, Extended, or Crew Cab configurations, and with long- or short-bed cargo boxes. Four-wheel drive is available, and the 3500 also comes in a dual-rear-wheel configuration. Chassis-cab and chassis-cutaway models are also available.
The Silverado HD Classic offers more powerful base engines than conventional (light-duty) Silverado Classic models. Standard power for all HD models is a 300-hp, 6.0-liter V-8 that delivers 360 lb.-ft. of torque. 2500HD and 3500 models offer two additional optional engines: a 330-hp, 8.1-liter V-8 with 450 lb.-ft. of torque, and the 360-hp, 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel V-8 with 650 lb.-ft. of torque. A 5-speed manual transmission or an optional 4-speed automatic with Tow/Haul mode is available with the 6.0-liter engine, while the two larger engines offer a 6-speed manual or an optional Allison 5-speed automatic. HD Classics can tow from 7,900 to 16,000 pounds, depending on the configuration. Powertrains are backed by GM’s 5-year/100,000-mile warranty.
All Silverado HD Classic models offer standard dual dashboard air bags and 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes. Notable options include satellite radio, a rear-seat entertainment system for Crew Cabs, power-extending camper mirrors, and GM’s OnStar safety and communications system.
