Overview
Cadillac Escalade EXT, the brand’s luxury sport utility truck (SUT) that was all-new in 2007, returns in 2008 and features standard, full-time all-wheel drive (AWD). GM touts the EXT’s midgate panel as industry-exclusive, allowing owners to convert the EXT with ease from a 5-passenger SUV to a 2-passenger pickup with 8 feet of secure and protected storage space.

Model Lineup
The 2008 Cadillac Escalade EXT comes in one version. Standard equipment includes full-time AWD; electronic stability control with rollover mitigation; road-sensing suspension; ultrasonic rear parking assist; remote start; driver information center; and a heavy-duty trailering package. Options include a power sunroof; rear-seat entertainment center; and 18-inch, 7-spoke chrome aluminum wheels. The optional V-8 Ultra Luxury Collection package adds a heated steering wheel; heated and cooled front seats; power sunroof; 22-inch chrome wheels; DVD-based navigation radio with premium Bose 5.1 Cabin Surround Sound system; and a full-featured, DVD-based, touch-screen navigation system. Power-adjustable running boards are an available option with the V-8 Ultra Luxury Collection package only.

Powertrain
The 2008 Cadillac Escalade ESV’s power comes from the same Gen IV, 6.2-liter, all-aluminum, Vortec V-8 engine as featured in the Escalade SUV, producing 403 hp at 5700 rpm and 417 lb.-ft. of torque at 4300 rpm. The engine utilizes variable valve timing to boost horsepower and torque through optimized camshaft timing. A heavy-duty, 6-speed automatic transmission with two overdrive gears and tap up/tap down manual shift mode transfers the power to the wheels. EPA fuel economy estimates are not available for the Cadillac Escalade EXT. Standard on every 2008 Cadillac is a 5-year/100,000-mile transferable powertrain limited warranty with no deductible, 24/7 roadside assistance and courtesy transportation.

Safety
Safety features on the 2008 Cadillac Escalade EXT include a 4-channel electronic stability control system with rollover mitigation; traction control; anti-lock braking system; and ultrasonic rear parking assist to alert the driver to objects behind the vehicle. Standard are driver and passenger air bags and occupant protection sensing system, and curtain side air bags in the first, second, and third rows. Cadillac Escalade EXT receives perfect 5-star ratings for all occupants in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) frontal- and side-impact crash tests. In NHTSA rollover testing, the Escalade EXT receives a 3-star rating.

Technology
The available Bose 5.1 Cabin Surround Sound system includes a fully featured DVD-based touch-screen navigation system and 6-disc DVD changer, CD and DVD audio/video, and MP3. Three free months of XM satellite radio keep the tunes coming. The optional in-dash DVD system with roof-mounted flip-down 8-inch diagonal screen features two 2-channel wireless headphones, remote game plug-in and auxiliary audio/video jacks. OnStar is also standard for one year, including the Turn-by-Turn Navigation services.
