The Escalade EXT made its début in 2002. The 2010 Cadillac Escalade EXT is a pickup truck, with an eight-foot bed that can easily be enclosed and converted to a five-passenger luxury SUV. Mechanically, the EXT is similar to the Chevrolet Avalanche, and carries over from the previous model year with only a few differences. For 2010, the EXT recieves Active Fuel Management, a system that allows the engine to shut down up to four of its eight cylinders when maximum power is not required. Cadillac also adds two trim levels: Luxury and Premium.

Standard equipment on the base level includes 18-in. wheels, adaptive suspension, xenon headlights, rear parking assist with rearview camera, automatic climate control, leather upholstery, heated power-adjustable front seats, and other power features. Also standard are a Bose sound system, Bluetooth capability, navigation system, and rear-view camera. The Luxury trim adds 22-in. wheels, Magnetic Ride Control suspension, and sunroof. To that, the Premium trim adds power-retracting side steps and a rear-seat entertainment system. Some of the Luxury and Premium features are available as stand-alone options on the base model. The Platinum level includes all the features in the Luxury and Premium trim levels, plus heated and cooled cupholders, a dual-screen entertainment system, and LED headlights.

A 6.2-liter 403-hp V8 engine powers the 2010 EXT. It generates 417 lb.-ft. of torque and is coupled with all-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission with manual mode. The 2009 model delivered 12 mpg city, 19 mpg highway, and 14 mpg combined, according to EPA estimates. Those numbers will probably increase slightly due to the new fuel management system.

The 2010 EXT features a full complement of standard safety features, and receives five stars in frontal- and side-impact tests from NHTSA.

Base MSRP for the 2010 Cadillac Escalade EXT started at $61,420.
