The flagship of the BMW sedan lineup, the 7 Series received a full redesign for 2009, including new exterior styling and a turbocharged V8 engine. The iDrive’s electronic interface has also been modified to a more user-friendly configuration, BMW says, and the rear end of the vehicle features a significant redesign.
The 2009 BMW offers two trim styles: the 750i and the 750Li, the latter of which has a longer wheelbase. Standard features include 18-in. wheels with run-flat tires, adaptive xenon headlights, adaptive adjustable suspension, front and rear parking sensors, sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, power-folding and auto-dimming exterior mirrors, keyless ignition and entry, multi-way adjustable (and heated) driver and front passenger seats, leather upholstery, Bluetooth, hard-drive-based navigation system, and 10-speaker stereo system. (Navigation destinations and favorite radio stations can be programmed, and music can be uploaded to an 8Gb hard drive.)
The Sport package includes 19-inch wheels, sport steering wheel, four-wheel steering, and active roll stabilization. Luxury Seating provides ventilated front seats, power rear sunshades, and other comfort features. Other packages include Cold Weather, Driver Assistance, Convenience, Camera, and Premium Sound.
The BMW 7 Series feature 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engines that produce 400 hp. and 450 lb.-ft. of torque. The Standard transmission is a six-speed automatic with manual shift control. The Dynamic Driving Control system provides various settings for shift response and speed, throttle response, power steering assist, stability control, and shock firmness. Rear-wheel drive is standard on both trims. The 750i is estimated at 15 mpg city, 22mpg highway, and 17 mpg combined. The 750Li delivers 14/21/17.
