This is the 10th model year for the Acura MDX, a mid-size crossover SUV that was one of the first of its kind to offer third-row seating. New for 2010 are an updated V6 engine, cosmetic changes inside and out, and several new technology features.

On the outside, the 2010 MDX features a new corporate grille and headlamp design as well as updated front and rear fascias. The rear of the vehicle has additional chrome trim, and the exhaust tips are neatly integrated into the fascia. For 2010, Acura has added an optional hard-drive navigation system that reports weather updates and suggests alternate routes in heavy traffic. An optional back-up camera offers a wide-angle view of the entire vehicle, which is a safety feature that Acura says is especially helpful for maneuvering in tight parking spaces.

Four options packages are available. The Technology Package adds upgraded leather trim, hard-drive navigation system, back-up camera, solar-sensing climate control, and a 10-speaker sound system. The Advance package includes the features in the Technology packages and adds 19-inch wheels, sport suspension and steering wheel, and perforated leather upholstery. Either package is available with the Entertainment Package, which includes a backseat entertainment system and heated seats in the second-row.

This year’s V6 is a 3.7-liter engine that produces 300 hp and 270 lb.-ft. of torque. It’s coupled with a six-speed automatic transmission (up from five speeds in last year’s model) that includes manual shift control. Acura’s all-wheel drive system can allocate engine power to individual wheels—either side to side or front to rear, depending on driving and road conditions. A new adaptive damping system, Acura says, provides quicker responses and tighter body control. Adaptive cruise control and a collision mitigation braking system are new for 2010. Fuel economy is estimated at 16 mpg city and 21 mpg highway.

When introduced, the 2010 Acura MDX started at $42,230.
