2008 Roundtable Presentations

We just wrapped up almost 3 days of speakers, panel discussions, meetings, networking, and parties at the J.D Power and Associates Automotive Internet Roundtable.  If you were one of the 800 people who joined us, we hope that we met or exceeded your expectations and that you'll join us again next year.  If you weren't, we hope to convince you to make it in 2009.

Either way, we wanted to make some of that great information available to everyone who's interested in the automotive Internet.  Please also consider passing this information along to colleagues who weren't able to make it.

Gene, you did a fantastic job with the event as did Charlie. It was time and money well spent and you'll see representation from RyanTech in 2009 for sure. Nice job with making the sessions available afterwards and thank you for a class act Symposium as you've always done. ( Kevin at RyanTech )

I just watched the video on the panel for Social Media and was pretty appalled at Tom Peyton being the moderator for that panel. He was clearly ignorant to the space and basically mocked it, not to mention his own company’s successful Myspace campaign. I figured there would be someone with more knowledge to moderate such a panel vs. putting it down throughout the entire session. I thought the panel was fantastic though and gave great insight on the space and what benefit you can get from it.

Next time, understand the industry and medium you're talking about and get an appropriate moderator, or don't do it at all.

We were very pleased to have Tom Peyton because is an industry-leading user of social media - he invested while others have sat on the sidelines. If you would also watch the OEM panel, you would see that between Ford, GM, Mercedes, and Nissan, none of them are using social beyond listening. Tom reflects the important, driving attitude of auto marketers which is asking for accountability. Unless each emerging medium can achieve that, the auto investment in online will not grow.

Get a clue. You obviously are working for a bleeding social media site. That said, you should be "Thanking" Tom. It is the only presentation around social media I have ever seen that has made a positive case for advertising on a social site.

Before you go on a rampage again you should take the emotion out and be objective.
